  1.                  THE TEN MOST COMPELLING UFO CASES IN HISTORY

  7.     1. "Hudson Valley," or the Westchester Wing, NY 1984
  8.  
  9.     Thousands of reports, mostly nocturnal, of large, silent, hovering
  10.  
  11.     object with series of rotating lights. Reports came from many highly
  12.  
  13.     credible individuals including meteorologists, news reporters, and
  14.  
  15.     police chiefs. "Planes in formation" theory still in contention;
  16.  
  17.     however, videos taken by area resident of both the object and a
  18.  
  19.     formation of planes shows distinct differences. Intermittent sightings
  20.  
  21.     to this day.

  25.     2. "Cash/Landrum", outside Houston, TX 1979
  26.  
  27.     Two ladies and 5-year-old boy report diamond-shaped object belching
  28.  
  29.     fire from beneath, surrounded by CH-47-style helicopters. Soon after

  31.     sighting, all three suffered strange maladies which were likened to
  32.  
  33.     radiation poisoning. Klass explains as hoax, saying that the witness'
  34.  
  35.     pre-sighting medical conditions were not released to him for
  36.  
  37.     examination.

  41.     3. "Roswell Incident," outside Corona, NM 1947
  42.  
  43.     Object crashed in remote location on a large ranch in early July, 1947.

  45.     Debris recovered by AAF, who issued hasty press release saying "Flying

  47.     Disk" had been recovered. Press release retracted the next day, and
  48.  
  49.     press conference held at which it was revealed the object was, in fact,
  50.  
  51.     a Rawin sonde (a device used to calibrate radar). 30 years later, AF
  52.  
  53.     intelligence officer Maj. J. Marcel claimed that the object was "not of
  54.  
  55.     this earth", that the press conference was a sham. Interviews with over
  56.  
  57.     150 witnesses reinforce anomalous nature of object.

  61.     4. "Army Helicopter", Mansfield, OH 1974
  62.  
  63.     Four National Guardsman aboard Bell UH-1H chopper report sighting
  64.  
  65.     large nocturnal object on collision course. Pilot-in-Command Capt.

  67.     Coyne puts chopper in descent mode. Object stops in front of chopper,
  68.  
  69.     then continues westward travel, after which Coyne discovers that
  70.  
  71.     chopper actually rose 2000 ft. Klass' explanation of a bolide is not
  72.  
  73.     supported by testimony, circumstances, or scientific principles.

  77.     5. "Bentwaters," Rendlesham Forest, UK 1979

  79.     Three separate sightings of anomalous lights near a NORAD base in the
  80.  
  81.     UK. Official report filed by deputy base commander, who also taped the

  83.     on-site investigation carried out by Air Police detachment. Occurence
  84.  
  85.     produced many witnesses, some of whom swear a craft was sighted. Invest-
  86.  
  87.     igation hampered by conflicting testimony, Britain's Secrets Act, grand-
  88.  
  89.     standing by one less than credible witness, and possibly the "Control
  90.  
  91.     Group" -- A US Senator began looking into the affair, but abruptly halted
  92.  
  93.     and would not communicate further with UFO researchers.

  97.     6. "Washington Invasion," Washington, DC 1952

  99.     Several fast-moving objects appear on radarscopes at three separate
  100.  
  101.     installations, including Andrews AFB. Interceptors scrambled, but don't

  103.     find anything. Same thing happens the next night, this time objects
  104.  
  105.     confirmed by ground observers. Largest peace-time press conference in
  106.  
  107.     govt. history called to explain to reporters that radar traces were
  108.  
  109.     caused by thermal inversions, despite absence of proper weather
  110.  
  111.     conditions on the nights in question.

  115.     7. "Great Falls Film", Great Falls, MN 1954

  117.     Little League baseball coach films two objects streaking across sky
  118.  
  119.     near an AFB. Original explanation was that objects were F-100s on

  121.     approach to AFB, but photo-analysis shows objects to be travelling much
  122.  
  123.     too fast.

  127.     8. "Trent Photo", McMinnville, OR 1950

  129.     Actually two photos taken by farmer with Polaroid camera, depict

  131.     classic domed saucer. Foreground objects provide good references for

  133.     analysis, which shows object to be around 30 ft. diameter, and at least
  134.  
  135.     1/4 mile distant. Shadows on foreground structure may be inconsistent
  136.  
  137.     with time of day provided by photographer; however, that is immaterial
  138.  
  139.     to analysis of the image's size and distance.

  143.     9. "Travis Walton," Snowflake, AZ 1974
  144.  
  145.     Five woodcutters allegedly witness abduction of their comrade aboard
  146.  
  147.     UFO. Abductee reappears five days later, fails first lie detector,

  149.     after which he and four other witnesses pass, one is inconclusive.
  150.  
  151.     Controversy surrounds suppression of first lie detector results.

  155.     10. "My wife's sighting," Fountain Hills, AZ 1989

  157.     My wife and another witness, a friend of mine, stood in my backyard
  158.  
  159.     about 1AM and witnessed a large, silent, hovering object with bright,

  161.     multi-colored lights that strobed in a diamond-shaped pattern. The
  162.  
  163.     object then took off to the northeast and vanished in less than a
  164.  
  165.     second. (Where was I? ASLEEP, DAMMIT!) Interviewed separately,
  166.  
  167.     witnesses gave basically the same description. Cursory check with area
  168.  
  169.     airports, AFBs yielded no clues.
